What does it mean to be an urban Indigenous person? Defining this terminology can be found through the unique and diverse voices of our Indigenous community – how we choose to identify ourselves to each other, and to the outside world.
Sharing our stories as urban Indigenous people can help shape the dialogue and shine a light on the successes, challenges, and priorities of our urban Indigenous community in BC.
Stories are part of the pathway forward for Urban Indigenous people, and we want to hear yours.
Your unique Indigenous voice can help to shape dialogue, policy, and even law.
Please share your story as an urban Indigenous person living in BC, we’d love to hear from you. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner.
We may request a brief interview over phone, video chat or email. The interviews will be conducted by people who have cultural sensitivity training.
Presently our interviewer is Zofia Rogowski, an Ojibwe artist and writer from Rama First Nation who resides in Lkwungen Territory. Zofia has written hundreds of biographies for Indigenous student award ceremonies and interviewed community members for features in Indigenous newspapers and college publications. She is committed to presenting stories in a way that feels authentic and safe for each interviewee.

British Columbia is comprised of the traditional territories of many distinct First Nations. We are grateful to all the First Nations who have cared for and nurtured the lands and waters around us since time immemorial. We honour their right to be included in all matters related to their territories. We further recognize the Métis, Inuit, and urban Indigenous Peoples living in the territories who make valuable contributions to our collective wellness.
